Fenugreek is an aromatic plant of the papilionaceous family, just like the sweet clover, with which it is often confused.


Originally from the Middle East, the trigonella has invaded the whole Mediterranean area and China.


Fenugreek was used to feed horses in ancient times, hence its name “Greek hay” (foenum-graecum). It is still used in India.


Written evidence of its existence can be found in an Egyptian papyrus dating back to 1500 BC, where it is described as being used to treat burns.
